The most important meal of the day with the most important person in your life.

Guess what that meal is?

Breakfast? Maybe if you're on a diet, or if you want to be energized for work, but no.

Lunch? Getting closer, but the practicality of lunch with your significant other when even one of you is working does not make lunch a likely candidate.

Dinner? Now you're thinking! Dinner is the absolute most important meal of the day to share with your girlfriend, boyfriend, wife, or husband. There are many reasons why, including all the social convention that has been built up surrounding this important mealtime.

The most romantic date choices rarely revolve around early morning or midday...dinnertime is where all the sparks and generated and fly. It goes without saying that enjoying food together is something that humans, as social creatures, love to do. Dates can hardly be considered successful on an empty stomach, so it's only natural that they all tend to occur in the evenings. Dinner includes the biggest, heartiest portions of food that most people eat in the day, and sharing it brings people closer to together in a bond that's written into our DNA.

Now that I've convinced you about the significance of suppertime for two, I want to discuss the two options you can take. They are very obvious. Cooking and dining out. Each method has its own pros and cons, but depending on the intention and motivation involved, I can tell you exactly which one is best for a given scenario. Taking unique personalities and dynamics into account is the best way to determine whether it should be chefs in the home kitchen or food delivered tableside on platters. Before I go onto my analysis, keep in mind that it never hurts, and is actually better, to have a combination of both of these types of dinners to enjoy together.

Restaurants are meant for those that have financial flexibility and a willingness to try new things and be surprised. The reason for this is that you can never know whether one restaurant will make a given dish, like spaghetti and meatballs, in the exact same way as another restaurant. There are many variants in ingredients, chef skills, cooking times, and so on, that can really change the outcome of the dish. This can be good or bad, but if the two of you, or at least one of you, don't like surprises, either stick to the same restaurants or don't go at all! But to be fair, an expensive restaurant will certainly impress in more ways than just the food itself.

Cooking at home is meant for those that have skills in the kitchen. It's for those that like to make works of art and enjoy the results and spoils afterward. It's also a way to interact and work together to make a feast well worth eating. The better the cook, the better the experience will be. However, it takes more time than a restaurant and while a good dish will be good, the effort involved is much higher and a bad dish may ruin the night entirely. Keep that risk in mind before visiting the grocery store. The best thing to do is to find a source of recipes that make sense and produce beautiful food.

There you have it, advice that will make the two of you happy forever. If you take away anything at all, remember that eating out and cooking in are both fantastic ways to bond with your significant others. Just remember to do it at dinnertime, and often!

From a happy wife and chef
